Jerusalem Embassy and Recognition Act of 2017

H.R.265
Introduced:
January 4, 2017
115
First
January 4, 2017
Referred to House (sub)committee

Like H.R. 257 of 1/4/17 and S. 11 of 1/3/17, this bill was designed to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. It would remove the presidential waiver authority from the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995; freeze 50 percent of the funds appropriated for the acquisition and maintenance of buildings abroad for the 2017 fiscal year (FY) until the secretary of state determines and reports that the embassy is open in Jerusalem; and make funds available for the construction of the embassy in Jerusalem.

See S. 11 of 1/3/17 for more on political dimensions of the proposed U.S. embassy move to Jerusalem.
